Gipsy Power (Steven Kautzky Andersson) – Little Wing

We featured Steven Kautzky Andersson a few weeks ago. In 1994 he formed a band to present his visionary mix of Jimi Hendrix, gipsy music and heavy rock. Twenty-five years after the debut album Gipsy Power was nominated for a Swedish Grammy, highlighted by Guitar World and sold in thousands in Japan, the band now returns - with new music, new faces and a new album on the way.

The first single from the forthcoming album is ‘Little Wing.’ Based on the universal guitar language of the song’s originator Jimi Hendrix, Gipsy Power’s version also recalls instrumental classics such as Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross from the 1960´s, as well as Jeff Beck’s masterpiece ‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers.’

The above is lifted from the PR simply because I can’t disagree with it. It’s spot on. As I said when I reviewed Steven Kautzky Andersson previously (9th April – ‘The Child Within’) this sort of music isn’t readily accessible these days and it is only because people like Andersson make the effort to record it that we get to hear it at all

For my money it channels Hendrix so closely, especially in the opening bars, that the White Cliffs of Dover might be at one end and Boulogne fish market at the other.

‘Little Wing’ was released on all digital music platforms worldwide on June 5th.
