I featured the new Girl Scout EP yesterday, and I was reminded that after I saw them live I had an interesting conversation with their excellent Dutch support band Marathon, who had a day off from playing gigs and were heading off to Blackpool for the night. Worryingly they haven’t released any music since, but they’re not the only band that strangely seem to prefer a seaside trip to Blackpool over Torquay, as Icelandic band Hvítá claim to have had ‘a splendid time on the Blackpool rollercoasters’ in new track ‘Black Days’. They’re a new band to Nordic Music Review, experienced musicians who’ve played in a number of Icelandic projects, and who are working with renowned producer Davíð Berndsen. I like this, commanding 80’s style vocals with melodic instrumental support, big tunes and the combination creates something quite refreshing and different. It’s just their 2nd single, and I look forward to searching out future releases, providing of course the ‘Blackpool curse’ doesn’t strike them first.
