Tough choice this week for Single of the Week, it‘s a really welcome return for Have You Seen The New Jane Fonda VHS and the new Jonas Lundvall track is lovely, but I think this new Arny Margret song is worthy of a few extra words.
I don’t think I’ve written about her previously, but she’s a 20 year old singer-songwriter from the Westfjords of Iceland, who learned the piano from a young age before switching to guitar, pretty much self teaching herself judging from an interview I’ve watched with her. She’s also spent some time in the last couple of years studying predominantly folk music in Denmark.
New single ‘akureyri’ is just her 2nd, a follow on from official debut ‘Intertwined’, although she’d already established her credibility in Iceland with live performances and some online releases. It‘s a soft delicate track and her vocals in particular are impressive, so expressive and persuasive that you’ll immediately be brought completely into her world, which is very much based around her natural Icelandic surroundings.
She‘s currently working on a debut album, and I’m looking forward to it already.
