It’s been a while since I wrote about Danish trio The Sleeplings, mainly because they haven’t released anything since their marvellous 2017 album, ‘Elusive Lights of the Long Forgotten’.
They were in danger of being long forgotten themselves, but they're back with a new single, in advance of a brand new EP, which is lovely news even if it’s not due until September. Anyway it’s so good that it gets the dubious honour of our Single of the Week.
I can’t quite remember their songs being quite so epic, but ‘Light Leaks’ is weighty, dark, brooding and highly rewarding thanks to the expansive and at times gorgeous melodies. It also has these swells in sound which create an intensity that will sweep you along with the music, it’s really powerful stuff.
There‘s also a video, which personally I think also showcases their musical talent.
I’m really excited that these guys are back, their fusion of cinematic pop, post and progressive rock is definitely my type of thing. I remember passing on their 2017 album to a few people and they all loved it, yet they remain a ‘hidden gem’ of the Nordic indie scene. Hopefully that can still change.
