uk gig highlights!!!
Every week there is a steady stream of Nordic artists playing in the UK, these are some of our most recommended up and coming UK gigs. Please check the artist websites for confirmation of dates!
We wrote about Icelandic singer Hafdís Huld just after we launched in 2014, and she's coming here in April for a big tour ahead of her 'Dare to Dream Small' Album which is due for release soon. There's some great little venues on the list, please check locally for tickets as we read that some were close to selling out. https://www.facebook.com/Hafdismusic?fref=ts
It's hugely remiss that we've not written about IDA WENØE, but we will try and correct that formally soon. The Danish folk songwriter comes to the UK for a 12 date tour in April inc the lovely Penzance, the even lovelier Plymouth, Manchester and one of my favourite venues, the Green Note London.
An obvious place to head if you want to see a great collection of Nordic Acts is the annual Great Escape festival in Brighton, and this years line-up in May includes Chinah (DK), Dagny (No), Mammut (ICE), Lowly (DK), Skott (Sw) and Slotface (No). A great place to see new acts from around the world.
It's particularly great news that Faroese singer songwriter Eivør is heading to the UK for a 5 date tour, but you might have to be really quick as some venues are already selling out. It includes the lovely little Castle Hotel in Manchester on June 3rd - unfortunately just as I'm flying back from an annual holiday.
Danish band Lowly arrive in the UK in May for 7 dates including the Great Escape already mentioned, but also a good selection of other dates across the country, Glasgow through to the excellent Bristol Louisiana. It all starts at one of our favourites, Gullivers, Manchester on 12th May. Their recent album 'Heba' is recommended too.
We’ve followed the progress of Siv Jakobsen since we started, and she has been regular live performer in the UK. This time she comes back to an excellent 'Live at Leeds line up at the end of April (have a look, some great bands playing), Glasgow and at Gullivers Manchester on May 1st (just across the road from the Castle Hotel where she played previously).
