New Band - 'Antler'

We’ve featured so many new bands in the last year and we thought we should try and introduce a particularly exciting one on our 1st birthday – and we certainly think Norwegian band ‘Antler’ have a great future. Ok so they’re not quite so new back in Norway but they probably haven’t had much of an introduction yet in the UK, and its our pleasure to do that now. They’ve just released 2 new singles in advance of an album release which is due to reach us in March 2016 (on No Foreveres label), and they are already making a stir with festival appearances at Gutfeelings #6, as well as Øyafestivale, both festivals renowned for introducing the best new artists in the Nordic music scene.

Anyway their debut single was called ‘Animal’ and that was released in October, but it’s the most recent single release ‘The Dip’ which was released last week that we think is particularly special. The strength of the track is clearly based around Natali A. Garners mesmerizing vocals, and its sweet and dreamy tune, but I love the overall band sound, it’s not trying to be too clever, just full of interesting subtleties. With an occasional offbeat rhythm and the odd slightly uncomfortable sound, there’s a great contrast against the pure sounding and understated vocals.

So you can listen to ‘The Dip’ simply by clicking this link (as regulars know we can’t embed Soundcloud links into blog posts).

And then you can click here to listen to ‘Animal’, which is almost as good as ‘The Dip’:

So future plans for Antler include a place at the prestigious Tromdheim Calling, Norways excellent showcase festival in February, and that will lead them in nicely to the album release which is due just one month later, and which we’ve already put in our diary for next year.
