We switch to Denmark now, and an artist we've listened to a fair few times, but never had chance to write anything about in Nordic Music Review. 'Lasse Matthiessen' is an interesting artist who is pretty established now in his home country (but sadly less known in the UK), and his 2014 album 'Wildfires' is a lovely lyrical and musical release, which you should really take a listen to if you haven't come across it before.
Ahead of his new EP 'When We Collided', which is released this Friday, Matthiessen has released the title track as a single. I really like this, he has this effortless sounding deep voice which is so individual and oozes authority. The melody has a richness to it too, and combined with the resonant acoustics of the old bunker in the Kreuzberg region of Berlin where it was recorded, this is a classy and beautiful release.
Take a listen to 'When We Collided' here:
I like in particular the vocal harmonies provided by singer Sara Hartman, and there is some lovely subtle instrumentation that develops in the track with well judged wind instruments (sounds like a bassoon to me...).
The full Lasse Matthiessen EP 'When We Collided' will be available on Friday 10th November through Zpektakel Records / The Orchard.
