amiina 🇮🇸 - ‘Beacon’ (video from ‘Pharology’ EP’)

Icelandic outfit amiina have probably received a fair amount of attention elsewhere for their new EP ‘Pharalogy’, but it’s an impressive release and worthy of a mention on these pages too.

They shouldn’t need much of an introduction, but I’ll do it anyway, consisting of Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson, they’ve released 3 albums, about 4 EP’s and spent a fair amount of time performing live (and in the studio) with their good pals Sigur Rós.

Now they’re back with ‘Pharalogy’, just 3 tracks totalling 19mins, the inspiration being fired by an art project to create music for a sound installation at the Nakkehoved lighthouse in Denmark- a beautiful white structure that towers above the sea.

‘Aton’ and ‘Refraction’ leads the way, but ‘Beacon’ has theattraction of a video to add to the atmosphere. Swirling minimalistic and pulsating with energy, the track has more in common with Steve Reich than it does with their alternative indie and rock contemporaries. And it’s powerful and evocative too.

Definitely recommended for those that like neo classical, ambient and post rock styles all fused together.

Find them on their website.
