As always this is a curious and interesting track from Icelandic indie folk artist Arny Margret, who has this ability to say so much in just a few words. It was actually released back in November and picked up by a few websites as a festively themed track, but from my perspective it simply gives me an excuse to mention her new album ‘I Miss You, I do’, which is due to be released on 7th March. The title track was released back in October, an Americana tinged folk pop song that I liked very much, but ‘Happy New Year’ is even more stripped back and personal at the start, before opening up with rich and always precise instrumentation, with every note and sound carefully detailed. I like the simplicity of the lyrics: “It’s New Years Eve, Worst day of the year, You raise your voice, And then you say to me… Happy new year”. Look forward to the album.
