It's been a while, but I guess I should get on with writing about some new music before the aliens land and start eating our puppies and kittens.
I'll start with a debut release from Norwegian outfit Bellefolie, which came out a couple of weeks back, and is a beautiful fusion of folk, dream pop and indie rock. Itâs powerful, and somehow balances sadness with a sense of optimism.
I know very little about the band, but Iâve done my best to put the pieces together. Alver based songwriter and vocalist Isabell Aga Engelsen appears to lead the project, with studio drums and programming courtesy of Jarle Haland, who seems to be credited on House by the Lake and Green Sky Accident releases. Live they're joined by 4 other Bergen / Alver based musicians, and the debut is released through our friends at Apollon Records, home of course to many of our favourite Norwegian artists, including Major Parkinson.
The band have been explaining more about the song.
âThe track dives into themes of loss, connection, and the invisible threads that tie us together. The imagery of faces in the clouds and echoes of the past creates a relatable and poignant listening experience. It's a song that makes you stop and think, perfect for anyone who loves music with depth. "In the Clouds" is more than just a tune; it's a reflection on how we're all connected, offering a moment of pause in our fast-paced lives.â
Itâs certainly a very clever, interesting track, with a complexity to the song structure that will make you want to listen again, and opening up to a climactic chorus which seems to make sense of everything.
