I was looking at Club 8’s release history a couple of weeks back as I was trying to find their Christmas singles to include in our Nordic Festive Indie Playlist. Of course they don’t actually have any, and I was getting them confused with fellow Swedish indie bands Club K and Club Transit, both of whom have released festive songs. But the even better news is that the duo have a December release, and it’s entitled ‘A Year with Club 8’, celebrating a prolific year of singles, which includes latest release ‘Nervous at Heart’, a lilting gentle track, with singer Karolina Komstedt offering soft, reassuring vocals against a timeless melodic instrumental backdrop. But the album is packed full of easy listening Indie Pop songs, with my favourites being the upbeat ‘Daylight’ and ‘Left Behind’’. I do miss the surprise of an album full of new songs, but both The School Book Depository and Club 8 have shown that releasing a single each month is probably the best way for an indie artist to maximise attention. They just need a Christmas song next year to add to their 2025 collection.
