It was lovely to see a packed venue in Manchester last week for Kalandra, a band that I’ve written about on these pages since seeing them play to the the smallest of audiences over 10 years ago. I loved the dynamic contrasts in sound live, and on the way home I was thinking of bands of a similar style to Kalandra, and I immediately wondered what Danefae were up to. Turns out they’d released a a new single that very day entitled ‘Blind’.
It’s been 2 years since the Danish band released their stunning album ‘Tro’, which to me couldn’t get much more perfect, but their new single bravely takes them a step forward in their songwriting, a heavier more intense guitar driven track that I wasn’t quite 100% sure about on 1st listen, but has grown on me so much in the last week.
I’ll let you make your own minds up obviously, but to me ‘Blind’ still allows the lovely contrasts in vocalist Anne Olesen to shine through, whilst offering an even more powerful instrumental backdrop. The ending is just fabulous.
Anyway, the track apparently is about ‘how the freedom to make all the choices in the world can make you paralysed, then you end up following another human being blindly and making all the same choices as them’.
Interesting stuff. Can’t wait for more of the new sound.
Find them on Facebook.
