Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS (Finland) - 'Maine Coon' (Album)

Whilst I think further about Ghosts on TV and their recent(ish) live release, I'll briefly cover two more Albums that I think most of you should appreciate.

First off is their compatriots Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS, the Finnish Indie Garage Pop trio with the unforgettable and thankfully easily 'googleable' name that have previously released 2 albums, 'Teenage Sweetheart' and more recently 'Jazzbelle 1984 / 1988'.

Latest album 'Maine Coon' is not only a welcome return, but shows them at their finest, because whilst they haven't really 'matured' too much in their musical sound, their almost trademarked Casio keyboard / Organ indie sound is here to stay, their songs are even bigger, brighter and more entertaining than ever.

Opening with the barnstorming 'In Tangerine', the band throw everything in our direction with one of my favourite tracks of the year, the excburence of bands like Team Me at their best, with a high energy, anthemic track that was universally loved by music bloggers when they released it as a single in January. But they keep the momentum going with 'Pool', whilst 'October' is an obviously catchy melodic track, 'Storyboard' is quirky frenetic post punk, whilst I love the 60's vocals and harmonies in 'Night At Zuska's'.

But maybe they keep the best to last, with 'Troglodyte', 4 1/2 minutes of mesmerising, progressive punk power pop ending with an epic instrumental and vocal climax that I defy anyone not to love.

Of course their distinct sound may not be for everyone. But somehow pulling together every era of music together and spitting it back with a wilful and joyous abandonment, 'Maine Coon' is undoubtedly Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS's best work to date. Just enjoy.
