I wrote about Icelandic outfit Hvítá and their trip to Blackpool in their appropriately named track 'Black Days' a couple of weeks back, and of course I couldn’t help but mention my concerns that no-one had heard from Dutch post punk band Marathon since they were last seen heading in the same direction after supporting Girl Scout in Manchester. Thankfully all is seemingly well as they’ve released new track ‘Out of Depth’, a dark brooding track which is taster from forthcoming album 'Fading Image', due in Spring 2025. This is an interesting song, I just love the sound of the guitars, which makes the opening a deliberately uncomfortable listen, as if they want us to be 'on the edge'. The intensity is maintained with a spiky balance of vocals and bass, before they create a wonderfully monstrous noise to conclude. Can't wait to hear it live, hopefully they'll make it back to the UK in 2025.
