It's always really appreciated when a band describes their music so well that I don’t have to try and think of anything interesting, or dare I suggest 'funny', to say about them. Icelandic band Spacestation write music that apparently 'feels like a train ride from Reykjavik to Berlin, permanently trapped in a Bermuda triangle of white noise...' . Now ignoring the pedantry of possible train delays caused by the North Sea flooding the lines just west of the Shetland Islands, that's actually rather good. If you saw the album title and wondered if 'Who Killed Spacestation?' might be a clever ‘whodunnit mystery’, you’ll be a little disappointed. Spacestation killed Spacestation. Case closed. It refers to the band 'killing off' their previous sound, and whilst that's probably a little over dramatic, their new album is an intense heady combination of Krautrock, post punk and dark jangly indie pop. But if that sounds heavy going, you needn’t worry. 'Lightspeed' injects some old fashioned 'boogie woogie' into the mix, 'Watching it Happen' is effortlessly melodic and catchy with some searing guitars thrown in, whilst 'Playground' demonstrates the moody, immersive side which permeates the album from start to finish.

I really like the album and their live shows are apparently pretty memorable too, with them in the midst of two weeks of European dates. The lovely folks over at The Reykjavik Grapevine are suggesting that a UK December tour is possible, and we'll definitely do another feature on them if they make it.
