We haven’t quite reached the point yet where we’re President of the Universe, but when we are we’ll of course mandate a number of key Nordic Music Review principles — the first of which we’ve been advocating since 2014: that all bands must be easily Googleable, or that some kind of galactic-wide database exists purely for our purposes in finding them. Because trying to find those extra little snippets of info we like to know whilst researching Swedish West Coast band Wild Ocean online is like diving into an algorithmic whirlpool — you emerge hours later listening to sea-life documentaries and wondering if you accidentally joined a dolphin meditation retreat.

Alternatively, just use your favoured streaming platform and let the music do the talking. Wild Ocean is the brainchild of Swedish musician Klas Sjöberg, who previously played with Like Honey and, interestingly also with the excellent Solander — who we actually wrote about eleven years ago. They’ve released two tracks in recent months — ‘FOMO’ and then ‘No Drama’ — both fizzing with melodic, upbeat power pop that brings a quick, easy smile to my face in the same way Finnish favourites The Stillwalkers and Delay Trees always do. I’ve listened to all their releases since their 2021 debut, and they’re consistently catchy, full of that effortless Scandi charm, with clear 60s melodic influences — though now on their 2025 singles with an even bigger, sharper power pop sound.

Ironically, our own FOMO during the recent NMR hiatus has been the fear of missing the next Delay Trees or Agent blå moment, so finding Wild Ocean is a really good start. And, as we’ve always said (repeatedly), it really is all about the tunes — and what I like about Wild Ocean is that’s exactly the approach they’re taking. Everything else is clearly just dolphins doing yoga and occasionally arguing about chord progressions.
