I've no idea where I came across Wolfschmidt, but I've had them on a playlist for a while, so I'll credit the excellent Austin Town Hall music blog given they're quoted on Wolfschmidt's Spotify profile, and I regularly dip into their website on account of their excellent music tastes.
So they're Swedish and based around 5 indie musicians, who've played with and produced a number of alternative bands, although I read somewhere that they started as a duo between vocalist Elin Edgren and drummer Hampus Sjöstedt, adding guitarist and producer Petter Lithvall, fellow guitarist Anders Lisle and Viggo Olssen, who quite possibly plays bass, ice hockey and central midfield for a Danish football team, depending on what I choose to read on Google.
Anyway they released a marvellous EP in September entitled 'Cosmic Joke', the highlight of which is definitely the 8 minute sprawling title track, I just love the sound of the guitars, which build to an impressive intense and searing post rock style conclusion. But equally enjoyable is the thumping 'ATM', as is the more melodic 'Crisis', which keeps things interesting with the tempo changes at the end. Anyway I've really enjoy both the band sound and contrasting vocals throughout, and really look forward to hearing what these guys have in store next.
If they could also just nip over to Manchester for a gig in the Northern Quarter that would be great too.
